Publishing

Below is the list I compiled of places you can publish based upon what you all found in your research and posted to your blogs.
1. One publication opportunity is Buzzfeed.com, Buzzfeed allows young writers to contribute through their "community" page and publish their own original pieces and suggest it to their community editors, if they like it can become a feature piece. http://www.buzzfeed.com/community/about
2. The second publication opportunity that I found interesting and that I did not know about was USA TODAY College. All you have to do is to compose a short pitch about your piece and if your pitch is accepted you get to work with editors to get your piece ready for print. http://college.usatoday.com/correspondent/
3. Millenium Shift e-journal - This publication accepts work that has relatively the same length as we write in class. Our feature articles would be perfect to submit to this publication because the feature articles they accept are about 1,000 words. To submit something, you just have to email submit@millenniumshift.com.
4. Crescent Blues - This publication also accepts features that are similar in length to what we write in class so it would be perfect to submit to them. To submit you just have to email crescentblues@hotmail.com/crescentblues@yahoo.com.
5. American Journalism Review publishes a variety of Journalistic Essays ranging from news stories to common, entertainment stories. You can submit to this site by emailing the editor at editor@ajr.org.
6. Carriage Town News. This paper/website features the newest news and journalism on what is going on in today's world. You can email that editor, Blaisdell, in order to be considered for publication.
7. Researchpublish.com. There are step-by-step directions that explain the publication process, copyrights, fees, etc. that must be followed in order to have your paper published. Instructions can be found at http://www.researchpublish.com/Important-instruction.
8. lulu.com. This website also allows you to publish, sell, & read other peoples' writings.
  9. Article Base is a “Free Online Articles Directory made for authors, writers and bloggers. It includes free articles submitted by its users. One of the best things about Article base is its user-friendly interface that makes article submission easy.”
10. Goarticles.com is a “very fast and simple websites for anyone who wants to get his/her article published online. The only thing that attracted me towards this site is its extreme simplicity and clear guidelines.” Both of these sites have very simple steps to publish your work and are easy to follow. 11. Loras College is a Catholic Liberal Arts college in Dubuque, Iowa. BSU's English department sent out information on Loras' Undergraduate Literary Journal "Catfish Creek" since they are accepting submissions until December 5. As well as fiction and poetry, "Catfish Creek" is looking for literary nonfiction as well. The profiles we have done in class, as well as the magazine article could be potential submissions that this journal could accept. There is no charge to submit a piece. They just require a cover letter and brief bio about yourself. Here is a link with more detailed guidelineshttp://loras.edu/About-Loras/Loras-Publications/Catfish-Creek.aspx
12. Boston College's "Clarion" also accepts many different genres to their literary journal. They also have a section for students to interview creditable writers or people who have contributed to the writing or academic world. This pertains to our class because every piece we have done has included some kind of interview to get information. For someone who enjoys this part of journalism, this would be a great opportunity to talk to someone interesting and show off your writing skills at the same time. http://www.bu.edu/clarion/interviews.htm
13. The Standard Times by completing an online submission at: http://services.southcoasttoday.com/reader-services/submissions/story-idea/
14. Bridgewater Magazine: http://vc.bridgew.edu/br_mag/
15. http://www.mediabistro.com/10000words/5-free-sites-to-help-journalists-build-an-online-portfolio_b12982 This article lists five possible locations for new journalists to build portfolios.
16. Since we have been using blogging as a way of writing within this course, I had found a blogging submission on The Hearald News' website. On that link you can submit your blog to be posted.
17. On the local level the Fall River newspaper, The Herald News has a submission section for submitting news stories.
18. I was also able to discover The Allegheny Review which is a national undergraduate literary journal. Students can submit their work (in relation to this course they accept nonfiction) by emailing work (preferably in a word document) to review@allegheny.edu.
19. The National Collegiate Honors Council also came across in my search. This is a publication opportunity for undergraduate students through research and journals.
20. In my search for finding publication opportunities for the type of writing done within this course throughout the semester I was able to find that colleges and universities offer publishing opportunities to students through undergraduate research and through a literary journal. Bridgewater State University offers both of these opportunities to students. \For BSU's Undergraduate Review, work can be submitted by creating an account. By creating an account I believe it brings you to a page where you can submit your work for eligibility for publication.

Welcome

We will use blogs to reflect on the reading, writing, and discussion we do in class this semester. Details of blog requirements can be found on the course website under assignments then blogs. Additionally, use your blog space to pose any questions relating to English 280 that you want to share with your classmates and me, any interesting or helpful class related items you come across, and to respond and communicate with your peers. Be sure to write not only on your own blogs, but on your classmates as well. Blogs should create a conversation outside of the walls of our classroom. In addition, be sure to take advantage of the affordances blogs have to offer. Use hyper links to link to material on other places of the web and put images, video, and any thing else available to you in your blog posts. Most importantly, have fun blogging!
